BART says its trains are safer, cleaner and more accessible for riders than they've been in quite some time. The transit agency on Wednesday highlighted new numbers showing violent crime on the system has dropped by 23% in the first three months of the year. BART officials and newly-elected Congresswoman Lateefah Simon, a former BART board president, toured the 19th Street Oakland BART station Wednesday to outline some of the changes meant to make the system safer.

The Warriors have earned a reputation as the NBA's gold standard -- beyond just Golden State's accomplishments on the court. In The Athletic's survey of anonymous NBA players, the Warriors were voted the league's best organization, receiving 21.9 percent of the votes. A new study of some of California’s most commercially significant aquatic species paints a grim picture for the future of the state’s fishing industry under the growing threat of climate change. The study, compiled by a host of researchers including federal and state scientists as well as researchers from UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis, looked at 34 aquatic species in an attempt to gauge how each would fare under predicted climate change scenarios.

Oakland Mayor-elect Barbara Lee on Monday introduced her transition team and identified her goals for the first 100 days in office. In a room full of labor, community, business and elected leaders, Lee declared victory and shared her plans for addressing Oakland’s biggest challenges.
