BOLIVAR, Mo. (KY3) — While monthly self-breast exams are our first line of defense, doctors say the importance of a yearly mammogram for women 40 years of age and older cannot be stressed enough. Deaths from breast cancer have dropped by 40 percent since 1990, because of mammography. Now, some smaller hospitals, like Citizens Memorial in Bolivar, are investing in cutting-edge equipment to catch breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stage.

Add cooled pasta and pesto sauce.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - It can be a long journey for people fighting breast cancer. It can be costly too, especially if you live a hundred miles away from your treatment center. That’s what a rural West Plains woman discovered last year when she started making that drive over and over again just to get well. Jennifer Hickson has been making the same road trip for a year and a half now, from West Plains to Springfield. “It’s 100 miles each way, so it’s 200 miles round trip,” said Jennifer.
