Microscopic colitis (MC), comprising collagenous colitis (CC) and lymphocytic colitis (LC), is an inflammatory condition of the colon, characterized by watery diarrhoea. Previous studies suggest an association between autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) (Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves’ disease) and MC; however, large-scale histology studies are lacking. We conducted a nationwide, matched case-control study.

This was a single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 trial of inulin for the purpose of preventing gut pathogen colonization and infection in the ICU. Patients were randomized 1:1:1 to placebo, inulin 16 g/day, or inulin 32 g/day beginning on October 14, 2019. Prior to enrollment of the first patient, a data and safety monitoring board (DSMB) was appointed which had full access to the study data.

Epigenetic clocks can quantify DNA methylation by measuring the methylation levels at specific sites in the genome, which correlate with biological age (BA). Accelerated aging, where BA exceeds chronologic age, has been studied in relation to cancer development, but its utility in cancer prevention remains unclear. Accelerated aging holds promise as a tool to explain the increase in early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC).

Data on upadacitinib therapy in children with ulcerative colitis (UC) or unclassified inflammatory bowel disease (IBD-U) are scarce. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of upadacitinib as an induction therapy in pediatric UC or IBD-U. In this multicenter retrospective study, children treated with upadacitinib for induction of remission of active UC or IBD-U from 30 centers worldwide were enrolled.
