The Shaker Heritage Society is scrambling now after a DOGE-related cut of federal funding. And that rescinded grant could cost the Albany historic site more money down the road. Up in the rafters of the 1848 Meeting House, workmen are wrapping up an insulation project that was started with the expectation that a $90,0000 federal NEH grant would pay for it. But, like many organizations across the country, the Shaker Heritage Society learned a week ago that the anticipated grant had been pulled.

He was not at liberty to discuss the details but admitted there are rumors that the new owners may resurrect the business. Jack’s was the epicenter of politics and celebrity in downtown Albany for 113 years, surviving two world wars and a depression.
