1 INTRODUCTION Globally, more than one million recorded species are threatened with extinction (Brondizio et al., 2019). The decline of terrestrial biodiversity is mainly driven by the conversion, degradation, and fragmentation of natural habitats (Haddad et al., 2015; Newbold et al., 2015) to meet our growing—and changing—food demands (Angelsen, 2010; Crist et al., 2017; Dasgupta, 2021).
