FUNK — Bird watchers who’ve stayed home waiting for the big March show performed by nearly a million sandhill cranes that stop in the Central Platte Valley each spring for a mid-migration rest and to feed from a bird buffet of corn kernels in harvested fields are missing an awe-inspiring opening act. From late February through March, an estimated 8.6 million geese and ducks also gather at the narrowest point along the Central Flyway on their way to northern breeding grounds for the same reasons.

Would you want three or four for a Tuesday Hub photo package? Mike Brownlee used several that I took last year about this time.
