World-renowned Montreal comedy festival Just for Laughs has officially launched its 2025 comeback with a lineup announcement that includes Kumail Nanjiani, Tom Segura and Russell Peters. Fortune Feimster, Mae Martin and Adam Ray are also among the comics performing at this year’s festival, which will run from July 16 to 27. Last year, Just for Laughs declared bankruptcy and was effectively cancelled.

Canada’s 100 Best has revealed their annual restaurant lists for 2025. Coming in at #1 as the best new restaurant in Canada is Montreal’s own Le Violon. Le Violon also ranked #11 on the 100 Best Restaurants list, which featured 25 Montreal establishments. May 5 is Red Dress Day across Canada, a day to commemorate as well as raise awareness about murdered and missing Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. A number of events are happening across Canada to mark Red Dress Day, including a Montreal vigil in Cabot Square at 6 p.m.Organizers of this evening’s event, the Native Women’s Shelter and the Iskweu Project, ask participants to bring red dresses and drums, if possible.

Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that the Canadian Dental Care Plan will be expanded to cover all Canadians in the coming weeks. As of today, the plan — which was first rolled out to seniors and children in Dec. 2023 — now covers the 55 to 64 age group. Canadians aged 18 to 34 can apply as of May 15, while those in the 35 to 54 age group become eligible on May 29. The Canadian Dental Care Plan is already open to people of all ages who have disabilities.

2025 has had its share of very real and very unpleasant drama, but HBO’s The White Lotus provided some much-needed fiction to distract us all. The third season of Mike White’s resort murder mystery aired throughout much of the voting period for this year’s Best of MTL readers poll, and this was most definitely reflected in the results. Actress Charlotte Le Bon, who played Chloé, was voted #1 Best Actress and #2 Hottest Montrealer.
