    A 51-year-old man has been handed a twelve-month community order, issued an electronic tag, and ordered to pay over £500 in compensation following an investigation by Humberside Police’s Rural Task Force into illegal hare coursing in Burton Agnes last year. Bernard Jardine, 51, of Bishop Auckland, County Durham pleaded guilty at Hull Magistrates Court to hunting a wild mammal with dogs, being equipped to search for hares with dogs and trespassing with intent to search for hares with dogs.

    A 100m safety cordon has been placed around an address on Main Street, Flaxton, near Malton, following the discovery of suspected WW2 bomb in an outbuilding undergoing renovation. It was reported to the police at 11.13am on Tuesday (May 13). Nearby roads have been temporarily closed, including York Lane, Bull Moor Lane, Rice Lane, Scotsman Road and Lords Moor Lane. The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is due to attend to make the device safe.

    Scarborough and Whitby firefighters were called to a number of unusual incidents on Tuesday (May 12). At 8.05am, the crew from Whitby responded to a report of a deer that was stuck in some railings. Crew members released the deer using Edraulic spreaders. Just four hours later they were in action again, this time to help a child with their arm stuck in a table. They were able to free the child using crew power only.

    North Yorkshire Police is appealing for information about a criminal damage that occurred on Manham Hill in Eastfield. It happened at around 9pm on Friday May 9 and involved a rock being throwing through the front window of a house on Manham Hill. Officers are particularly appealing for information if anyone saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at that time or saw the incident happen.
