Sara Byrne birdied her final hole to card a one under 70 and keep her hopes alive of winning an LPGA Tour card at the LPGA Q-Series in Alabama. The Douglas star (23) endured another rollercoaster day at Magnolia Grove as she made six birdies and five bogeys on the Falls Course to share 30th on level par. Only the top 25 and ties will be awarded LPGA cards after five rounds and Byrne, who has already secured a card for the LPGA’s second tier Epson Tour, is just one stroke outside the magic number.

World number one Scottie Scheffler has “no problem” with US players being paid to play in the Ryder Cup. Scheffler earned over $62 million (€58.7 m) in 2024 making his the highest-earning season in PGA Tour history. But while Europe’s Rory McIlroy said last month he’d pay to play in the Ryder Cup and Scheffler said he had no problem playing for free, he’s not against his teammates getting paid.

The Island is among the front runners to host the Amgen Irish Open in 2026. Sources at The Island confirmed that the north Dublin links is on a short list of courses being considered by the DP World Tour. The Irish Independent also understands that Fingal County Council has had initial contact with the club with a view to studying the logistics surrounding the event.

Sara Byrne closed with a brilliant 68 to advance to Final Qualifying as Lauren Walsh made a 15 clutch footer at the last to also keep her LPGA dream alive in Florida. Douglas star Byrne went into the final round of the Qualifying Stage at Plantation Golf and Country Club tied for ninth in the race to make the top 35 and ties. But she showed no sign of nerves, making six birdies in a four-under closing effort on the Bobcat Course to tie for sixth and claim Epson Tour status at the very least.
