Classic vehicles roll through Antelope County Approximately 460 classic automobiles - ranging from souped-up trucks to decked out Impalas - made their way through Neligh on Sunday morning. The Nebraska Rod & Custom Association's 32nd Tour Nebraska started in Plymouth on Saturday, for the first leg on the tour. Sunday's adventure began in York, at the Holthus Convention Center, looping through Boone, Antelope, Cedar and Wayne counties, before ending in Howells.

Four Summerland students who will compete in National SkillsUSA competition in June will be honored during a June 22 celebration. The open house - pep rally combination, will be held on the Advocate-Messenger office's "back lot," 522 Main Street, in Clearwater, at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Sanders Ewing American Legion Post #214 Commander, Dennis Ziems presented Don Ruroede with a certificate for 70 years of membership in the Legion. The presentation was made during the Memorial Day program at St. Dominic's Hall. Ruroede is a 1952 graduate of Ewing Public School. Following Graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for two years during the Korean War and was stationed at Kimpo Air Base in South Korea. While at Kimpo, a North Korean pilot defected with a Russian Mig 15 jet.

Have I got a story for you. Since I believe in transparency, I want you to take a look of the photo of Ryan Rifer sliding into home plate on Page 3. Go on, I’ll wait. It’s a good photo, and it would be even better if I could remove Coach Kevin from the first-base line, so the slide and defender’s stretch were in full view. I decided I would try a photo-editing tool to remove the coach and make note of it as an editor’s note in the cutline.

One Summerland track and field standout landed on the medal stand, Friday, during the Nebraska School Activities Association Class C State Track and Field Championships at Omaha Burke Stadium. Junior Ryan Rifer competed in high jump, earning the fifth-place medal. The Bobcat jumper cleared 5' 10 inches and 6 feet without error. He missed his first attempt at 6' 2 inches, but made adjustments and cleared the bar on his second run.

Robertson to represent Lady Cats at state track championships

Extreme wind conditions couldn't slow Lydia Robertson. The recent Summerland grad cleared 4' 11 inches in district high jump competition, qualifying for this week's state championships at Omaha Burke Stadium. She claimed the top spot on the podium in the event. Lenora Kester finished fifth in triple jump. She landed at 32' 8 inches. She also ended with a fifth-place finish in the 300m hurdles, running 51.77. Karley Dawkins picked up the sixth-place medal after running 14:17.59 in the 3200m.
Trustees agree to lease termination

Ewing Village Board of Trustees agreed to an early lease termination for a duplex unit. The action item was discussed during the May 12 board meeting at city hall. Trustee Jeremy Tuttle suggested a walk-through with the current tenant be completed, and the unit will be available for rent June 1. Trustee Katie Cunningham said information about the rental needs to include clear pricing. "People think rent is similar to Bauer Memorial Homes," she said. Duplex rental is not based on income.
