SooToday received the following letter about motorcycle safety. Motorcycle statistics as reported by the OPP are alarming. To add to their report, the province of Ontario publishes an annual ORSAR (Ontario Road Safety Annual Report) document. This report paints a more complete picture, as it encompasses all of Ontario, not just the OPP patrolled jurisdictions. Using the OPP numbers provided we see 31 per cent of motorcyclists killed last year were not at fault.

The Prince Albert Raiders brought a halt to a three-game losing streak in dramatic fashion in Kennewick, Wash. Friday night. Turnovers and penalties put the Prince Albert Raiders in a hole Wednesday at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Ore. Although they were able to claw their way back in the final frame, the Raiders suffered their third consecutive loss on their US Division road trip as they dropped a 4-3 decision to the Portland Winterhawks. “I thought it was two different games for sure,” Raiders head coach Marc Habscheid said.

When the Brandon Marlins took to the diamond in Prince Albert, Sask., on Friday for the 13-and-under Western Canadian Baseball Championship, it marked the first competitive game for the team in nearly a month. After winning the Tier 2 provincial title in Winnipeg on Aug. 6, the Marlins were slated to compete at the Westerns in Kelowna, B.C., but that event was cancelled just as it started on Aug. 18 due to wildfires in nearby West Kelowna.
