Former NCAA woman of the year Karenna Groff and family members were among the six people killed when their twin-engine plane crashed Saturday in Columbia County. Groff, who played soccer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is being remembered as someone who excelled on and off the field. The 25-year-old who graduated in 2022 studied biological engineering. She was also the co-founder of a 2020 project that developed and manufactured facemasks during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comptroller Tom DiNapoli says New York state should improve its storage of durable medical equipment purchased during the COVID-19 pandemic. An audit released Friday also says the state distributed only a small fraction of the equipment at its disposal. The Democrat says equipment including ventilators and x-ray machines that are sitting in storage facilities are missing recommended maintenance and costing taxpayers storage expenses.

After surviving the World Trade Center attacks, the orthopedic surgeon and rescue worker began operating on patients at Beekman Hospital. He also lost his sister on 9/11. Today, as he suffers from cancer caused by the dust at Ground Zero, Huie travels to colleges and universities around the world, delivering commencement speeches and meeting with students.
