    A Rugby-based dog rescue charity is holding an action-packed show on June 9. Pawprints Dog Rescue is holding its annual dog show from 9.30am-4.30pm, at The Old Laurentians in Lime Tree Avenue, Bilton. The show includes agility competition, trade and craft stalls, a giant tomobola, music, refreshments and ‘have a go’ sessions.     Fundraisers at a Rugby pub won’t be feeling ‘ruff’ this weekend. The Seven Stars landlord Graham Proud and pal Kim are going booze-free to help pay for a rescue dog’s surgery. Little John, known as LJ, needs urgent attention and is currently being cared for at Pawprints Dog Rescue in Rugby. He’s suffering from hip dysplasia in both hips and has cruciate ligament damage in both knees. His surgery is £3,500 per leg.

    Patients recovering from breast cancer surgery will benefit from new Pilates sessions in Rugby. The sessions will be delivered by physiotherapists at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust. Funded by the West Midlands Cancer Alliance, the sessions, comprising of a one-off education class followed by a six-week timetable of Pilates, are hosted in the Laurel Unit at the Rugby’s Hospital of St Cross.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder together with five men and a teenage boy on suspicion of other offences after a significant pre-planned operation in Ryton. Just after 5.30am this morning (Thursday, May 22) more than 100 officers from across the country, supported by partner agencies, entered Woodside Park and secured it. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and threats to kill in connection with an incident that occurred in Nuneaton on May 9.

    Canal enthusiast David Suchet is sailing in for Braunston's 21st Historic Narrowboat Rally & Canal Festival. Sir David and Lady Suchet will perform a ‘Poirot double-act’ for the opening of the rally and the renaming of marina entrance bridge as ‘Peter’s Bridge’. They are both vice-presidents of the Inland Waterways Association and have each opened various rallies in past years – but never together.
