Attempted Traffic Stop Leads to a Chase Between Moundridge and Inman

McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — An attempted traffic stop in Moundridge Thursday led to a chase that ended in a field between Moundridge and Inman. According to the Moundridge Police Department, Officer Wagner began a pursuit after the driver refused to stop that continued for several minutes through rural McPherson County. The chase ended near 15th and Chisholm Road where the driver fled on foot into a nearby field that was waist deep in water.
McPherson Water Park Cleanup Update

McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Water Park provided an update today on cleanup from Tuesday’s storm. Excess water continues to be pumped off, and while great progress on debris and storm damage has been made, work continues on the pool itself, with pumps running as fast as possible without overloading the system. As of now the pool is not yet at the correct depth for proper filtration to take place so appropriate chemistry can be reached.

Bowlus Fine Arts Center to Host Kids Craft Camp

IOLA, Kan. — The Bowlus Fine Arts Center will be hosting a Kids Craft Camp starting June 30th through July 31. The camp, led by Iola High School alumni Andi Reynolds will involve hands-on projects, new skills, and awesome crafts to take home. This is for 1st through 5th graders and will be held from 2:30 until 4:30 with 1st and 2nd graders Monday and Wednesday, 3rd through 5th graders Tuesday and Thursday. There is a one-time $10 camp cost per child, waters and materials will be provided.

GIRARD, Kan. — The Southeast Kansas Community Action Program will open applications for their homeless housing program Monday, June 30th at 8:30 AM. This program provides assistance for persons certified as homeless or about to become homeless by a social service agency or helping organization, and whose income is at or below 50 percent of the area median income for their county of residence. Applications will be taken online at sekcap.housingmanager.com until grant funding has been obligated.

ERIE, Kan. — More information has been released regarding the two juveniles struck by a train during the noon hour Wednesday south of Erie. The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the victims as 16-year-old Arthur Pollries of Walnut and 12-year-old Kollin Showalter of Erie.

This is due to a combination of not being able to run off excess water due to excess flows going through the city’s wastewater treatment plant and debris issues in the area of the Water Park.

McPHERSON, Kan. — In an action full of irony due to its unplanned timing, McPherson City Commissioners approved purchase of a new inflatable boat for the Fire Department. The boat purchased from Rescue One Board, is to replace a boat purchased in 2018 that is at end of life. Rescue One’s bid of $4,180 plus shipping was the lowest of three bids submitted. It approved the purchase of five AEDs for the police Department.
Flood Warnings for Little Arkansas River

Flood warnings have been issued for the Little Arkansas River at Alta Mills and Halstead where minor flooding is forecast. At Alta Mills the Little Arkansas will rise above the 22 feet flood stage Wednesday afternoon and crest at 24.2 feet early Thursday morning. At Halstead the 25 feet flood state will be reached Wednesday evening and crest at 26.1 feet early Friday morning.
