Vermont’s largest child care center planned in Randolph

ShareRANDOLPH, Vt. (WCAX) - The state’s largest child care facility is coming to Randolph. It’s project several years in the making that began after an assessment showed child care as one of the town’s top priorities. The completed center will serve 88 kids 365 days a year and includes a preschool which officials say is rare for child care centers. The project leader says the center will also help fill the area’s need for workers.

(WCAX) - Students scrolling, liking, and texting on their cellphones is seen as distracting and counterproductive, and some Vermont schools are workshopping new guidelines for getting phones out of students' hands this upcoming school year. Judge rules Vermont's lawsuit against Monsanto can move forward

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - A judge has ruled that a lawsuit against the manufacturer of toxic PCBs can move forward. For decades, Monsanto manufactured PCBs that were used in building materials. In Vermont, the discovery of PCBs at Burlington High School led to the school's closure, demolition and $165 million bond to rebuild it. Vermont sued Monsanto and the company asked the judge to throw out the lawsuit. But last week, the court ruled the lawsuit can proceed.
Town of Morgan battered by flooding, road washouts

MORGAN, Vt. (WCAX) - The small Orleans County town of Morgan was hit hard by flash flooding and washouts Monday night. "I got up and realized it was roaring outside," said Maria Cargill, who says she woke up to the sounds of her neighbors yelling for help. At least five inches of rain had already come down and Cargill says her neighbors were worried about getting out of their house with their six-year-old granddaughter. Child left in hot car prompts police investigation in Milton

MILTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Police continue to investigate the death of an 18-month-old who was left in a hot car. It happened in the parking lot of a business on Centre Drive in Milton. According to a national nonprofit that tracks these types of deaths, Kids and Car Safety, this is the first time a child has died in a hot car in Vermont. But the nonprofit says these types of deaths nationwide are not as uncommon as you may think.
