After the American Revolution, the area where Raleigh is now located was chosen as the future site of the state capital. With Fayetteville Street as the main construction zone, downtown Raleigh holds many stories and interesting pasts. Andrew Nason, a local historian and current graduate student at NC State, guided and walked a group through some of downtown Raleigh’s most famous historical landmarks, sharing facts about their pasts.

The art of NC State student artists took the stage at the Fish Market Gallery in downtown Raleigh on Friday. Open to the public and offered with free wine, students and viewers saw work portraying a theme of “Dark Arts.” Ryann Horn, a fourth-year studying graphic and experience design and part of the Fish Market Gallery team, described a little history of the gallery venue and this month’s theme. “Fish Market student art gallery is an NC State-run art gallery for NC State students,” Horn said.

NC State Live brought the renowned Dee Dee Bridgewater Quartet to perform in Stewart Theatre in Talley Student Union on Thursday. The quartet, consisting of Bridgewater, bassist Amina Scott, pianist Carmen Staaf and drummer Shirazette Tinnin, gave an incredible show celebrating women in jazz. Liza Green, the interim director of NC State Live, said the group scours the globe to find artists at the top of their game. “Dee Dee Bridgewater is a good example of that," Green said.

Throughout September and October, Multicultural Student Affairs annually celebrates Latinx Heritage Month with a specialized theme. This year’s focus is on the aspect of community spirit, called “Espíritu de la Comunidad.”The planning for each year’s theme begins in the summer before the event. The member organizations send a student representative to be part of a planning committee to discuss what is happening locally and globally regarding Latinx Heritage Month.

As spooky season creeps near, the film industry has jump started the season with the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie, a sequel to the 1988 original. Jenna Ortega broke her streak of being out of the spotlight with an astounding performance as Astrid, the daughter of Lydia Deetz, replayed by Winona Ryder. The two characters are not on speaking terms at the movie's beginning, but a tragic death in their family starts a story that develops toward the two rebuilding their relationship.
