Education Office staff will move into the sixth form centre at Les Varendes when students are relocated to their new temporary home at La Mare de Carteret in September. They will be joined at Les Varendes by the Music Service, Youth Commission and sexual health teachers. In total about 130 staff will be accommodated in the building, which adjoins the 11-16 secondary school. The move was criticised yesterday as ‘fiscally and morally irresponsible’ by Education Committee member Andy Cameron.

Skip to main content A plaque has been unveiled in the Market Buildings to commemorate the first arrival of Guernsey cattle in America. The unveiling took place yesterday lunchtime, accompanied by two six-month-old heifers, who spent their lunchtime in Market Square. ‘We are here today to commemorate the rediscovery of a historic plaque – one that was hidden for many years amid renovations and redevelopments of the Market buildings.

The boat, a 390T, 316-passenger, high-speed catamaran San Pawl, has just been relaunched following its annual statutory out-of-water maintenance and surveys. ‘We will continue to operate her as an internationally certified passenger ship, in the same way the previous owners have done,’ said Islands Unlimited CEO Chad Murray, who is currently in Malta working on the ship.

Education, Sport & Culture announced on Wednesday that the IB would be paused due to the lack of take-up. One of the 14 students signed up to the course, Ben Tooley, 16, who currently studies at Les Varendes, said that the decision to pause the course next year felt cruel. ‘I am really, really angry,’ he said. ‘This decision has not just been made without consultation, but without warning or any sort of communication.
