Skip to main content The States has terminated its controversial 10-year multi-million-pound contract with Agilisys. The contract with the IT infrastructure provider will officially end at the end of July after the States said that it was enforcing a breach of contract clause. ‘We have terminated the contract with notice on that basis that the performance of Agilisys is not where we needed it to be in terms of achieving value for money,’ said States chief executive officer Boley Smillie.

Skip to main content A local politician visited 10 Downing Street earlier this week to make representations on behalf of the island as a new UK-EU trade deal was being thrashed out. The Trade and Cooperation Agreement Reset promised by the Labour government when it was elected last year aims to recalibrate and reassess post-Brexit relationships between the UK and the EU. Guernsey external relations minister Jonathan Le Tocq was joined by Jersey’s chief minister Lyndon Farnham at Downing Street.

Podcast and video interviews with this year’s election candidates are under way at the Guernsey Press. Each of the 82 candidates is being offered the chance to discuss their goals if elected and to be grilled on their manifestos for the Guernsey Press’ audience. Sitting deputy Neil Inder was the first to take a seat yesterday morning. ‘I think the Guernsey Press has done a great job doing this, we should be grateful for the effort they’re putting into it,’ he said.

Skip to main content The Tourism Management Board is hailing new statistics which showed that visitors to the island in the depths of winter were up 6% on last year. The visitor figures for the first three months of the year showed that there were 21,928 people staying in the island for at least a night, which was 5% better than in 2024 and 1% better than 2023. The number of day trips to the island was up 6% year-on-year and 14% on 2023.

Two people from Newquay, Cornwall, and two from Guernsey have been sent to prison by the Royal Court for their parts in the importation and supply of the class B drug Ketamine. Anthony Wolf Jenkins, 31, and Mollie O’Connor, 29, both from Newquay, admitted four and three counts of importation of Ketamine respectively. The pair, who are in a relationship, arrived in the island from Exeter in August last year and were stopped by Border Agency officers at the airport.

Forest residents living near the Mallard have reservations about the proposal for more than 100 homes at the site. A number of residents spoken to by the Guernsey Press said that they were only alerted to the planning application when they read it in yesterday’s newspaper. Megs Bailey and her husband Jeff live close to the site. ‘I was shocked when I saw the news that there would be 100 homes,’ she said.

Four States members handed in their papers yesterday, along with 11 candidates, some new and some having another go, taking the total number of candidates to 82, well below the 119 seen at the 2020 election. There are 26 women standing, making up 32% of candidates, compared to 28 (23.5%) five years ago. Skip to main content Visitors beyond the Channel Islands took the trip across the water to experience Sark’s Liberation Day celebrations. Stephanie Peacock, UK Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth, attended Sark’s celebrations after taking the lead for the government in organising its VE Day celebrations. Her grandfather served in the RAF during the Second World War, so said it was personally quite moving for her. ‘It’s been a real honour and privilege to be here.
