The Grimsby Telegraph's Odd Man Out , Peter Chapman, has sadly died at his home in Scartho, after a short illness. His passing marks the end of an era in the town he loved. Peter, who was of one of the Telegraph's longest serving journalists, was still contributing stories to the paper, into his eighties. He inspired generations of reporters who passed through the newsroom and benefitted from his huge experience, kindness and wit.

As I looked out across the surface of Ladybower Reservoir in Derbyshire, I noticed a steady stream of ripples. It wasn't from the stones I'd been skimming. Not rain, or wind. It was something else. Fish, perhaps? It wasn't until I was lying awake in bed later that night - my legs burning - that I realised what the rippling had been: a cloud of midges basking in the summer evening sun.
