TakeawaysSB2310 becomes effective seven months after Governor Murphy signs it into law and is similar to state and local pay transparency laws enacted throughout the country. The bill applies to a wide range of individuals and organizations who do business, employ people, or take applications for employment in New Jersey. A $300 fine will be levied for the first violation and doubled for subsequent violations.

As more state and local pay transparency laws are enacted
throughout the country, retail industry employers face a new
challenge in an ever-evolving industry.
Pay transparency laws are in effect in nine states: California,
Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode
Island, and Washington. The District of Columbia and Illinois pay
transparency laws are scheduled to go into effect on June 30, 2024,
and Jan. 1, 2025, respectively.
