SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento mother is calling for urgent safety changes to the Interstate 5-Highway 50 interchange where her son was killed in a motorcycle crash earlier this month. Kelly Boyer, 39, died on May 3 after his motorcycle went over a guardrail and he fell to the ground below. The deadly crash remains under investigation. Boyer, a Sacramento native, leaves behind a young son.

DAVIS, Calif. — A bill moving through the California legislature aims to slow down drivers and save lives in the state’s most dangerous construction zones. Assembly Bill 289 would authorize the use of automated speed enforcement (ASE) cameras in up to 75 high-risk highway work zones across California. Supporters rallied behind the legislation Tuesday along Interstate 80 in Davis, where construction crews work just feet from passing traffic.

SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — A towering column of smoke drew attention along I-80 in Solano County this week, but Cal Fire says the blaze was part of a carefully planned effort to prevent something far more dangerous. The fire was a prescribed burn, deliberately set and closely monitored by Cal Fire crews between Fairfield and Vacaville. The operation scorched more than 80 acres of dry grass and vegetation – fuel that could otherwise spark fast-moving wildfires during peak summer heat.
