Ellabelle Hubler, a resident at Landings of Sidney, looks at her cake while celebrating her 104th birthday on Friday. When asked how she managed to reach 104-years-old she replied “Well, I just enjoy life and enjoy every day that comes along. And suddenly I was an old day.” Hubler was born on April 20, 1921 in a rural Indiana home. Landings of Sidney program director Michelle Stollmer presented Hubler with 104 birthday cards she had collected from well wishers.

Firefighters enter a house at 8263 Port Haven Drive on Tuesday. A call for the fire went out at around 11:45 a.m.. Smoke could be seen coming from the house which was not occupied at the time. Fort Loramie firefighters and the ODNR work to free a boat from an underwater sign that it ran over and was impaled by on Saturday in the middle of Lake Loramie. A couple of men were reportedly rescued from the boat which was taking on water. No one rescued was injured. Some fishermen boating on the lake also came to help try and pull the boat free.

MINSTER — Thirteen-year-old Kayla Ranly said she has been cooking “pretty much all my life,” helping her mom, Jana Ranly, in the kitchen. Now she is cooking for her community and attending culinary camps. While Kayla Ranly has helped her mom cook for as long as she can remember, she didn’t start getting serious about it until she was 8 years old during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Anna firefighters work to move a Honda Accord with heavy rear-end damage at the scene of a four vehicle crash Wednesday on Meranda Road in front of the Honda Anna Engine Plant. The car was rear-ended by another vehicle. Two other cars sustained minor damaged in the crash. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. Several Anna Rescue Squad vehicles also responded.

SIDNEY — On Thursday, March 20, a well-known internet blogger pushing a cart that reads “Jake Walks America” walked under the Big Four Bridge and into Sidney, which started his Shelby County trek. Jake Sansing has garnered fans on Facebook by posting continuous updates of his journey across the U.S. on foot. He has also written the self-published book “Walking America: A 10,000 Mile Journey of Self-Healing” describing his adventures.

A pickup truck rests upside down as a car sits against a tree in the front yard of a house at the intersection of County Road 25a and Amsterdam Road. No one was reportedly transported despite heavy damage to the front of the car and damage to the pickup. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. The Anna and Botkins police responded. Also responding were the Anna Rescue Squad and the Botkins Fire Department. The crash was reported at 8:11 p.m. on Monday.
