Investors on the $1.80 favourite Pond Master in race four at Belmont on Saturday have adequate claims of grievance after the horse ran 2nd by 0.67L in the 1400m handicap. But the rules punters! You are on Pike with the $1.8 chance Pond Master - gate (5) slow to open and agreed cost 1 length denying fair start. But because it runs 2nd (btn 0.7 lengths) - can't be declared a non- start under rules.

    Star Aussie jockey Damian Lane had a remarkable Saturday, riding six winners at Tokyo - including the last five on the card. Preceding Lane's handful of winners to finish the card saw him finish second in R7 to a $58 chance - and that was like a red rag to a bull seemingly, as he let rip soon after. Satono Arpeggio ($2.10), Jocelyn ($5.60), Perifania ($2.50), Bidaaya ($1.50) and Argo Navis ($4) all saluted under Lane as he put on a clinic.
