The Mark Currie-trained Eli Creek was up against four rivals in the 925m heat, and made them look second-rate when rattling home in 54.96s over the 925m. Apprentice Shania Willis was on board for the sweet steer, but it might be her last sit on him if the sale plans come to fruition.

Major-winning jockeys Damian Lane and Michael Dee both had memorable moments in Japan on the weekend. Lane, a frequent visitor and winner on his Japanese trips, claimed the G1 Tenno Sho (3200m) aboard Redentor ($3.10F). The Tenno Sho (the Spring edition) is not just your average G1 either with a prize pool of 574,500,000 Japanese yen (about AUD$6.1m). The race heated up a long way from home as third-fav Justin Palace ($4.90) started looping the field to make his run.

With all eyes on another Pride Of Dubai progeny on Saturday, this fellow flew the flag in NSW. Six-year-old gelding Jumeirah Beach ($6) was coming into the Hawkesbury BM72 Midway off a Doomben win three weeks ago, which was his first race win in close to 18 months. That previous win was at Hawkesbury in November 2023 when he parked second in a six-horse field and dominated.
