A woman has been arrested after a player was attacked at a Welsh football club. A 24-year-old woman from Newport who was playing for Goytre Women FC in an away game in Tonyrefail against Tonyrefail Welfare Ladies FC was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident. A spokesperson for South Wales Police confirmed they were called to the football match at around 4.20pm on Sunday, January 12, to a report of an assault.

The minimum unit pricing for alcohol could increase in Wales. Dubbed the 'Strongbow tax', the measure was first introduced five years ago in March 2020 at 50p per unit. The initiative was brought in to combat the sale of cheap alcohol in an attempt to reduce the amount of alcohol consumed by "harmful and hazourdous drinkers" and tackle binge drinking.

A pedestrian is in a critical condition after being hit by a van. Gwent Police are appealing for information following the incident which happened at around 9pm on Tuesday, January 14. The incident happened on the A467 southbound side of the road in Risca, and involved a van and a pedestrian, according to a statement from the force. The pedestrian was taken to hospital where they are said to be in a critical condition.

A North Wales bakery has been ordered to pay £18,500 to a blind man who was dismissed during his probationary period. An employment tribunal hearing concluded that The Village Bakery in Wrexham should have allowed Ian Stanley more time to familiarise himself with the factory layout. Mr Stanley, who has been registered blind since 2010, began working at the bakery in 2023 after spending the previous 18 years as a waste-coordinator/packer at another food manufacturer.
