Days after a rare 40lb shark was reeled in by an angler, another local enthusiast has landed a 27lb tope shark of the same species. Darren Gregory, 42, an ex-member of the Royal Welsh, made the catch at Coney Beach in Porthcawl around 9am. As Darren hauled his catch ashore, swimmers could be seen in the waters of the well-liked Welsh scenic spot. Prior to the shark's capture, the former serviceman, who now serves as a wind-turbine technician, had already snagged a bass and a smalleyed ray.

People have been warned not to go into the sea at four North Wales beaches. It comes after they were reported to have had sewage discharged into them in the last 48 hours. Leading marine conservationists Surfers Against Sewage regularly warn people of sewage discharges at popular spots.

A woman from the UK has tragically died after becoming infected with rabies, following contact with a stray dog during a visit to Morocco. Yvonne Ford, 59, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was reported to have had "light contact" with the stray dog while on holiday in February in the North African country. Yvonne's daughter, Robyn Thomson, a neonatal nurse, posted a tribute to her mum on Facebook. She said she hoped to raise awareness of rabies, reports Yorkshire Live.

A police car crashed in a collision with another vehicle in a seaside town. The crash took place on Monday night in Criccieth, Gwynedd at around 8pm, blocking the road and causing delays. One motorist reported how he had been delayed by about 25 minutes following the collision, which involved another vehicle on Ffordd Porthmadog.
