Kyle Shaw's "persistent campaign" saw him send abusive messages and a "menacing" threat to Miss Ballas as well as her friends and colleagues. Liverpool Crown Court heard the 37-year-old thought Miss Ballas's late brother, David Rich, was his father.

    A mum has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her child, who was found in a woodland close to a theme park more than a quarter of a century ago. Joanne Sharkey, 55, of Liverpool, denied murdering her baby boy, whose remains were discovered close to the Gulliver's World theme park in Warrington, Cheshire, on 14 March 1998.

    The deadline for energy firm Cuadrilla to plug in the UK's only two shale gas wells has passed with questions remaining on whether it has been completed. The site on Preston New Road, near Blackpool, was the country's first horizontal fracking site but after more than 120 tremors were recorded during drilling the controversial process was banned in 2019. Fracking sparked lengthy protests from environmentalist groups and local communities in Lancashire.
