    The Hopkins County man convicted in the death of his eight-year-old stepson in 2024 was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday in circuit court. The sentencing comes from a plea deal Antonio Person made with the state in March. The 34-year-old entered a plea of guilty to nine charges, including second-degree manslaughter in the death of Trey Major Harris, a student at Hanson Elementary School.

    A host of shovels dug into the earth earlier this week as local and state officials broke ground at the future site of an electrical plant in Hopkins County. The project is part of the Kentucky Municipal Energy Agency (KYMEA) system. The generator plant was announced in September 2024, and is expected to be completed and online by summer of 2027, according to KYMEA officials.

They can share memories, and tell you how much it has meant to the small Webster County community, but that first Sunday is lost to history. The annual gathering has taken place each year since at least 1943. That's the first date that can be securely written in the books. But it certainly started earlier.

    More than a week after record rainfall blanketed western Kentucky and neighboring states, floodwaters continued to rise in Webster County this week. The levels crept higher as rivers on both sides of the county reached their crests by midweek. The result has been stagnant water flows near the Tradewater and Green rivers. Because those waterways are so far above flood stage, the excess in towns like Providence, Sebree, Wheatcroft, and Blackford have been unable to empty.
