Varano, who is a 1985 graduate of Mount Carmel Area and a longtime teacher, administrator and basketball coach, told the seniors that they already knew the advice she wanted to bequeath to them.

    MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP — An electrical fire summoned area first responders to a resident’s room in the Maple Wing of Mount Carmel Senior Living Center early Saturday morning. Atlas Fire Chief Brian Hollenbush, who also serves as Mount Carmel Township’s fire marshal and police chief, conducted an investigation and determined the electrical fire, which appears to have started in an LED light valance mounted on the wall of a patient’s room, was accidental in nature.

    SHAMOKIN — Wailing sirens and applause from Fifth Ward residents signaled the arrival of the anchor, bell and 7-foot-wide brass propeller that were once part of the Tug Shamokin in the city Saturday afternoon.
