CARLTON — As a statewide moratorium on green burials is set to expire, Carlton County is considering an additional one-year moratorium on the practice to study possible health and environmental impacts of the emerging practice. On Tuesday, Carlton County residents expressed excitement and concern at a Carlton County Board of Commissioners public hearing on the proposed moratorium. The moratorium was not brought to a vote after the hearing.

CLOQUET — More than half of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa’s enrolled members live off the reservation, according to an economic analysis conducted by the band. However, Tribal Chairman Bruce Savage hopes construction of a new elder housing complex will give some of them a reason to return home. The nearly 16,000-square-foot building will offer 18 one-bedroom units exclusively for elders enrolled in the Fond du Lac Band.

CLOQUET — Another class of Lumberjacks is journeying out into the world. On Friday, May 23,188 Cloquet High School students received their diplomas at the commencement, which was held at the Cloquet Middle School Gymnasium. “There have been breathtaking highs and gut-wrenching lows. Throughout it all, there has always been the suspense of what is going to come next,” senior class president Johanna Bernu told the graduates.
