Mounting menu prices, fewer guests, and bankruptcy filings from some of the biggest names in U.S. foodservice have left restaurant operators in a tough spot heading into the rest of 2024. Research firm Technomic noted a 0.7 percent year-over-year decline in restaurant traffic as of January 2024. There has also been an uptick in menu pricing for proteins, Technomic said, with seafood particularly impacted.

It appears the foodservice industry in North America has just about cleared the Covid-19 hurdle that initially rocked the sector beginning in 2020.
