For the first time in 24 years, the Michigan State University hockey team is bringing the Hobey Baker back to East Lansing. The 2024–25 Hobey Baker Award winner — given to the most outstanding player in college hockey — is junior forward Isaac Howard, following a dominant season in the green and white. Following a loss in the NCAA tournament, the awards and honors are still raining down for the Michigan State University hockey team as three have received All-American honors for the 2024-2025 season. Junior forward Isaac Howard, sophomore goaltender Trey Augustine and junior defenseman Matt Basgall were all recognized. It marks the first time MSU has had three All-Americans in a single season since 1999.

Michigan State University hockey standout forward Isaac Howard is planning to return to for his final season in the green and white, his agent told The Detroit News on Wednesday, April 9. Howard was selected in the late first round of the 2022 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He spent one season at Minnesota Duluth before entering the transfer portal, where he transferred to Michigan State and saw his production flourish during his junior and senior years.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The 3A title game of the 2025 Chipotle-USA Hockey Youth Tier II 14U National Championships had a bit of everything.
The West Seneca Wings (NY) and Plymouth Flyers (MI) combined to score 11 goals and commit 15 penalties. In the end, the Flyers had a bit more fire power to win 6-5 and secure a national title.
“It means so much. We’re the first team ever from our program to make a national championship game,” Flyers head coach TC Wingrove said.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The 1A title game at the 2025 Chipotle-USA Hockey Youth Tier II 14U National Championships needed a shootout to crown a champion.
The shootout was tied 1-1 when Lucas Dennis skated up to take the fourth attempt. Dennis buried his attempt to lift the Nebraska Warbirds (NE) over Team Wyoming (WY) for the national title.
“Not a lot of words to describe it, a lot of emotions,” Dennis said.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Fighting to bring home a national title to Utah, the Ogden Jr. Mustangs (UT) made history with a 3-1 victory against the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights (NV) in Sunday’s 2A title game of the 2025 Chipotle-USA Hockey Youth Tier II 14U Nationals Championships.
“This is awesome, from my understanding it’s the first national championship in Utah,” head coach Jeff Krieger said. “We’ve been doing this since August, kids never gave up, had a big OT win yesterday.

Even with Augustine returning, the upcoming season is expected to be his last in East Lansing. The South Lyon native is likely to sign with the Detroit Red Wings, who drafted him in 2023, and continue his development at the professional level. With Augustine’s eventual departure looming and Di Pasquo now gone, MSU’s future in goal is uncertain. Junior Dolan Gilbert remains as the third-string option, but the backup position and long-term starter role are now open questions.
