The State News

The State News is the official student newspaper for Michigan State University, located in East Lansing, Michigan. It operates through a mix of advertising income and a $5 refundable fee that students pay each semester. While funded by this student tax, the content of The State News remains free from influence by faculty and administration. The newspaper is overseen by a Board of Directors made up of journalism experts, faculty members, and students. Notably, The State News does not have an ombudsman, which is common in many other publications. In 2010, the Princeton Review recognized The State News as the 8th best college newspaper in the United States. Additionally, in 2015, the Society of Professional Journalists awarded it the title of the best daily college newspaper for the year 2014.
