Another round of thunderstorms possible this afternoon. Isolated storms expected to form in the western half of the South Plains then expand in coverage as they move to the east Some storms could turn severe this evening. Thunderstorms will be capable of producing severe weather. Including large hail up to baseball size, damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, and locally heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding. Tornadic activity does not look likely but is still possible given the right conditions.

The forecast setup for today’s rain is very similar to yesterday’s rain. Scattered showers will develop from eastern New Mexico to the western South Plains late this afternoon. These storms will then expand in coverage and likely become more severe as they move to the east this evening. Thunderstorms will be capable of producing large amounts of rainfall that could lead to flooding on roadways and lower areas. large hail up to golf ball sized still possible tonight. Winds could gust up to 70 mph.

A calm start to the week on this Monday morning. Low temperatures in the 40s through low 50s. The dry and benign pattern continues into this afternoon, mostly sunny skies and high temperatures peaking in the upper 70s to mid 80s. Precipitation returns to the South Plains on Tuesday and stays in the forecast through this weekend. Severe storms will be possible, most likely on Tuesday and Wednesday. These storms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall.

Two days in a row of record breaking highs over the weekend. Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport recording a high temperature of 96° on both Saturday and Sunday. Beating the previous records, set back in the heatwave of 1932, by several degrees. An early morning front to bring seasonally average temperatures back to the South Plains today. Highs expected to range from the mid 60s through the mid 70s. This front also brings in a northeasterly wind around 15 to 20 mph.
