If you are reading this article for a reason, these conflicts are more common than you think in college and it sucks. If you are reading this article for fun, consider yourself lucky. A bunch (or few) college kids in their late teens to early twenties can get messy sometimes, then throw a problematic partner in the mix and see what happens (it is not usually a good outcome). I always feel bad for the clothes that I don’t wear. I think about the money that I wasted on them and the lost potential of a piece that doesn’t fit right. However, I’ve been able to preserve or reuse clothes that I hate so I don’t have to spend more money or contribute to the wastefulness of the fashion industry. I’m not a scientist but I’m pretty sure that the diet of a city squirrel greatly varies from one that lives in the forest. As spring break approaches, many options are available to the humble college student. Florida? Cancun? Nashville? Anywhere to escape the reality that spring break at Michigan State is still basically winter. The dark horse of all of the options, coming in with the steel chair, is staying home. However, when your Instagram feed is full of your peers downing margaritas and getting suntans, how is staying home even a comparable option? The semester is a non-stop grind of school, work, clubs, and repeat.

With the high cost of college tuition and daily living, many students cannot afford to just be a student. Once we get settled into the school year, many of us will start searching for part-time jobs. Luckily, there are many opportunities for MSU students to work part-time in East Lansing, and right on campus. When I realized I needed part-time work, I went for the on-campus job route, and am going on my fourth year as a student employee.

An expensive lease, a summer internship, and a desperate need to get out of my (affectionately) terrible hometown led me here: in East Lansing, and never leaving. I have never liked summer, and this summer was no exception. Too hot, too repetitive, too isolated. However, staying in my college town taught me a lot about myself and my least favorite season. In a different, tragic week in music history, rock legend Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991. This week, however, had the music industry coming together in their grief. On April 20, 1992, some of the biggest names in entertainment joined together at the Freddie Mercury Concert for Life. The concert was organized by Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon to both remember their bandmate’s legacy but to also bring awareness to the epidemic that had taken Mercury’s life: AIDS.
