The Ants qualified for the FIRST Championship after winning the Impact Award at a regional competition in Minneapolis on Sunday.     FAYETTE — Some small businesses in mid-Missouri say they might have to close if their taxes go up. Many provisions under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which created tax cuts aimed at allowing small businesses to compete with large corporations, are set to expire at the end of the year. The federal law, passed under President Donald Trump's first administration, overhauled federal tax code and eliminated certain deductions, such as state and local taxes and student loans.

    The Columbia Police Department (CPD) welcomed new officers to the force Friday, graduating 14 hires from the new Columbia Police Training Academy. The new graduates were hired in October of 2024 and are the first class to graduate from the new program. One officer said he's grateful to be part of the recent class of recruits. "Following into my father's footsteps," Officer Bill Ludwig said. "He was a police officer as well.
