There’s a perpetual crowd when folks from the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary have a tent at the Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market. It’s no wonder why: They always have birds in tow and they’re just plain cool. The Indian Shores sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates and if possible, releases Florida native birds, and is the home to about 100 permanently disabled birds. Their purpose of being there is an important one. The sanctuary suffered damages from Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

A longtime Gulfport business has new owners and a new name. Thai Orchids and Leis sold to Gulf Orchids. The orchid and plant shop on Gulfport Boulevard recently celebrated its grand opening. Last September, life and business partners James Higginbotham and Joe Yannazzone bought the business from Pete and Pandy Silavutiset. Transplants from Orlando, gardening hobbyists Higginbotham and Yannazzone transformed their home garden into a tropical oasis.

Some artists paint, others sculpt or create works digitally, but Gulfport artist Jenna Wojnowski, aka The Rug Lord, expresses herself by tufting rugs. Known as The Rug Lord, Wojnowski creates vibrant pop art rugs that can lie on the floor or hang on a wall. Discovering a New MediumWojnowski discovered the medium during the pandemic. She’s always been artistic, and paints graffiti. But with competition being stiff among painters, she sought another medium. Tufting had gone viral on the internet.

Now here she goes again: Legendary singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks is bringing her solo world tour to Tampa’s Amalie Arena on Aug. 30. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 18. As much a cultural icon as celebrated musician, Nicks has been a member of Fleetwood Mac since 1974. She has gone muti-platinum and won Grammy Awards both as a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac. Nicks is the first woman to have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, twice.
