The Bard said it best: Parting is such sweet sorrow. After six months writing about arts and features for The Gabber Newspaper, I’m leaving. I’m starting a new position as the managing editor for Creative Pinellas’ digital magazine. While I’m excited to start a new career, I will really miss working for The Gabber Newspaper. The team has been so easy and fun to work with and I commend what they’re able to produce every week with such a small staff.

An internationally celebrated artist has moved to Gulfport. Ken Kelleher makes contemporary pop art under the business moniker Anchorball. He’s created a cast of characters that get rendered in paint, fiberglass sculpture, as inflatables, art toys, and plushies. Anchorball characters start as digital 3D renderings, then are fabricated in China and Thailand. But Kelleher originally began his career as a sculptor, after going to school at Alfred College in New York, where he learned welding.

While it’s important that Florida CraftArt primarily focuses on Florida artists, it’s nice when the gallery opens up to national and international artists, too. That is the case with its current exhibition, Spaces Between. The textile exhibition is a partnership with the Surface Design Association and includes work by members of both organizations. Artists responded to an open call and were selected by juror Akiko Kotani.
