The Gabber
The Gabber Newspaper, initially known as the Gulfport Gabber, was established in 1968 by George Brann to focus on the Gulfport city council. Over time, it grew into an essential source of information for the community, broadening its advertising reach and content to include features, local news, and events. In 1980, Elsie and Ted Havness purchased the paper from Brann, and in 1992, it was sold to Ken and Deb Reichart, who managed it for 28 years before passing it on to Cathy Salustri Loper and Barry Loper in June 2020. As the oldest independent weekly newspaper in Florida, The Gabber Newspaper serves the South Pinellas area, covering communities from Madeira Beach to Tierra Verde and Gulfport to Pinellas Park, as well as south, west, and downtown St. Petersburg. Readers can find local news, community happenings, in-depth features, and the most comprehensive classifieds among weekly newspapers in the region.

The Bard said it best: Parting is such sweet sorrow. After six months writing about arts and features for The Gabber Newspaper, I’m leaving. I’m starting a new position as the managing editor for Creative Pinellas’ digital magazine. While I’m excited to start a new career, I will really miss working for The Gabber Newspaper. The team has been so easy and fun to work with and I commend what they’re able to produce every week with such a small staff.

Mary Beth Krolik, Maddie Kinane, and Josh Adams decided to take The Gabber Newspaper to Kansas City. Looks like they took our October edition featuring not-so-random acts of kindness during Hurricane Milton. We hope they enjoyed their trip to Missouri. Have you taken The Gabber Newspaper somewhere? We want to see your pictures! Please send a high-resolution photo and a brief description to [email protected].

An internationally celebrated artist has moved to Gulfport. Ken Kelleher makes contemporary pop art under the business moniker Anchorball. He’s created a cast of characters that get rendered in paint, fiberglass sculpture, as inflatables, art toys, and plushies. Anchorball characters start as digital 3D renderings, then are fabricated in China and Thailand. But Kelleher originally began his career as a sculptor, after going to school at Alfred College in New York, where he learned welding.
