NAPLES, Fla. — Collier County is set to present an updated design for its $37.3 million Airport-Pulling Road widening project. The long-awaited plan aims to ease traffic between Vanderbilt Beach Road and Immokalee Road, but its getting mixed reviews. The project design includes a six 11-foot lanes, a 22-to-29-foot raised median, curb and gutter on both sides, a 10-foot-wide sidewalk on the west side and six-foot- wide sidewalk on the east side, a stormwater drainage system, and street lighting.

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Plans for a new 350-foot cell tower in Ochopee have been halted after Collier County commissioners voted to stop the project in Big Cypress National Preserve. The decision came Tuesday following strong opposition from dozens of residents and activists. Members of the American Indian Movement’s Central Florida chapter called the vote a step in the right direction.

NAPLES, Fla. — A Naples-based nonprofit is making steady progress on getting more homeless senior women off the streets and into stable, affordable housing. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Collier County received a $30,000 grant to support older women in need last year. The funding, in partnership with the Collier County Women’s Foundation, has already helped rehouse four women, with plans to assist six more in the coming weeks.

OCHOPEE, Fla. — Collier County commissioners are weighing a proposal to build a 350-foot communications tower within the Big Cypress National Preserve, a plan that has sparked opposition from some residents and a business owner in the area. NAPLES, Fla. — One of Collier County’s biggest annual events is back. The 49th Annual Collier County Fair officially kicked off Thursday afternoon at the Collier County Fairgrounds and will run through Sunday, March 30. The family-friendly fair features 30 big rides — including seven high-thrill “super rides” — as well as more than a dozen smaller rides for kids. Organizers say nearly 100 vendors are participating this year, offering food, games, and more.
