(KPTV) - The Humane Society of Southwest Washington (HSSW) is seeking foster volunteers to ensure that all 325 cats and kittens in both shelter locations receive the care they need. “Kitten season is one of our greatest times of need,” said Sam Ellingson, Vice President of Communications and Marketing at HSSW. Kitten season runs from the spring through the fall, which means things are currently in full swing at HSSW.

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Big Brother Big Sister Columbia Northwest (BBBS) teamed up with rappel team Over the Edge on Saturday. During its fundraising event, BBBS members rappelled down all 15 stories of the Hyatt Regency Portland. As part of the BBBS program, local youth are paired up with an adult mentor. The program is designed to help encourage and inspire youth as they grow up. According to its website, BBBS has served 850 children over the year.

(KPTV) — Youth volunteers with Multnomah County Search and Rescue (MCSAR) gathered at Lewis and Clark State Park on Friday to share hiking safety tips ahead of the summer season. “We respond 24/7, any moment of the day,” said Tate Allen, Vice President of MCSAR. Hiking is just one of the many popular outdoor activities to do in and around Multnomah County this summer. But things can go from fun to dangerous very quickly.

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - If passed, a budget reconciliation proposal introduced by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) would put 3.2 million acres of public land up for sale across 11 states, including Oregon. Lee’s proposal would help offset tax cuts and other expenses in the Trump Administration’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”The states included in Lee’s proposal include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

BANKS Ore. (KPTV) - After Governor Tina Kotek invoked the Conflagration Act, additional fire departments in Oregon deployed their own crews to help fight the Rowena Fire. Crews from all over the state traveled to the Columbia River Gorge to help, including three members of the Banks Fire Department (BFD). Captain Sean McGonigal, engineer Jaxon Herrman and training officer Victor Haney arrived at the Rowena Fire early Thursday morning. They returned home to Banks on Saturday.
