DID you know that most women wearing chastity belts during bygone centuries were not, as commonly believed, ordered to do so by their jealous husband to stop them sneaking off to their lovers? Instead, it seems, wives actually chose to wear one to keep themselves “pure” from other predatory men while travelling far from their homes and hubbies. At least that’s what one exhibit explains at the rather naughty Sex Machines Museum in the Czech capital Prague.

Albanian strongman Enver Hoxha didn’t pussyfoot around billeting “illegal immigrants” on some off-shore barge or trying to fly them to Rwanda during his country’s Communist era. He just had them shot on sight as suspected saboteurs. On the other hand, if anybody tried to leave the country, he had them shot too – as suspected traitors. For, after all, who but a traitor (or possibly a lunatic totally out of his mind) would want to escape such a socialist paradise?

An actor who played Tinky Winky in the iconic BBC children's TV series, Teletubbies, tragically passed away just weeks after relocating from London for a fresh start, according to a close friend. Fifty two year old Simon Shelton Barnes reportedly succumbed to hypothermia after being discovered on a Liverpool street on the morning of 17 January, 2018. He played the lovable purple Teletubby from 1998 to 2001. His sudden passing left loved ones reeling and questioning what went wrong.

Well, if magic is afoot on the island, then I fell under its spell during the few days I spent there WHEN rock star Bob Geldof played a sell-out gig on the Isle of Man a few years ago, his Boomtown Rats band were rather bizarrely billed as the Boomtown Longtails. For nobody on the island dare say the word “rat” in case it brings them bad luck. And if some stranger accidentally does, then they must immediately knock on wood and whistle.
