Fire and Emergency New Zealand has declared a prohibited fire season for the Waikato Northern and Coromandel Zones as of 2pm on Friday, 7 March, until further notice. A prohibited fire season means no outdoor fires are allowed and all fire permits are revoked. Waikato District Manager Daryl Trim says the areas are experiencing less rainfall than usual for this time of year.

AbstractResponding appropriately to potential threats before they materialize is critical to avoiding disastrous outcomes. Here we examine how threat-coping behavior is regulated by the tail of the striatum (TS) and its dopamine input. Mice were presented with a potential threat (a moving object) while pursuing rewards. Initially, the mice failed to obtain rewards but gradually improved in later trials.

A major daily paper reported on 03/09/2024 that a builder had been censured for allowing people to live in a shed. The shed had toilet facilities and other normal facilities. The owner of the shed was a qualified carpenter, but the authorities involved took such a dim view of his actions that they thought his building license should be cancelled. There was no mention of the likes or dislikes of the tenants in the shed.
