Three new “marquee attractions” are coming to the 134th Cloverdale Country Fair this year. A new stage, a roller skating rink, and a new lounge will have entertaining acts and events—all included with a Fairgrounds admission ticket. The South Gate Action Stage is an expanded skateboarding and action sports venue that will feature numerous acts and performances over Rodeo Weekend. Roll-A-Rama is a new roller skating and roller derby venue.

Canada’s second largest rodeo is around the corner. The Cloverdale Rodeo will enjoy its 77th iteration on May long weekend (May 16-19) this year. The 134th incarnation of the Country Fair is back too and with all the surrounding events, exhibitions, entertainment, and attractions, it’s sometimes hard to remember there is still a rodeo to be had with more than $300,000 in prize money to be won.

Dogs, cats, and small creatures were up for adoption May 3 and 4 in Surrey. The Surrey Animal Resource Centre held a no-cost open house over the weekend and found homes for 15 animals. More than 150 people visited the centre—a city-owned shelter located in Cloverdale—for the adoption event. The city held the open house in an effort to free up space at the shelter, which is running at capacity. Mayor Brenda Locke attended the adopt-a-pet day.

Cloverdale is getting a new hockey team. The as-yet-unnamed franchise will begin play this fall in the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s (PJHL) 2025-2026 season. The club will play in the Jr. "A" Tier 2 league as the B.C. Hockey-sanctioned league splits into Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams for play next season. Ronnie Paterson, founder and partner of the White Rock Whalers, and new owner of the Cloverdale team, said he is excited at the prospect of hitting the ice this fall and excited for the community.
