Editor’s summaryCarbon-fluorine bonds are notoriously scarce within naturally occurring biomolecules. Li et al. developed an enzymatic approach in which trifluoroiodoethane serves as a fluoroalkyl donor through radical addition to a vinyl arene. The enzyme uses a flavin cofactor as a chromophore, and the active site provides stereocontrol over hydrogen atom transfer to the radical intermediate.
