1. IntroductionWetlands, such as coastal lakes and estuaries, are a major contributor to Australia’s biodiversity [1]. Australia is a signatory to the (Ramsar) Convention on Wetlands of International Importance [2] for biodiversity. Federal water and wetland monitoring programs are mainly focused on securing and managing water resources, following the Commonwealth Governments’ intervention under the Water Act [3,4].
