President Donald Trump’s tariffs sent shockwaves through the global e-commerce market by targeting a trade loophole, known as the de minimis exception, used by Chinese online retail giants. The tariffs against China, Mexico, and Canada include a provision to eliminate the Section 321 de minimis trade exemption on small packages coming into the US worth less than $800. In September, the Biden Administration proposed limits on overuse of the de minimis exemption.
