A missing ingredient in downtown Sacramento’s revival — workers in offices — got a big boost Monday when Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order calling state employees back to their work sites four days a week as of July. It’s the right thing for downtown Sacramento. It’s the right example for the state government to set for other governments, the private sector, non-profits and everyone else in California.

Congressman Ro Khanna of Silicon Valley may be California’s most effective opponent against the Trump administration right now. Who else can trigger Elon Musk or prod Vice President JD Vance to the point of throwing a hissy fit on X? Khanna did that in a matter of days last week. “You disgust me,” Vance said to Khanna on X. Because many of his 341,000 X followers are in tech, Khanna’s tweets are finding their way to Musk, Vance and other tech bros empowered by Trump for the moment.

Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper said Tuesday that his deputies will only respond to calls if a crime is being committed, has been committed, or if there is a request for service in which an individual life is at risk of imminent danger. There will be nothing in between. They won’t respond if someone is simply behaving erratically.
