    DP World opened its first warehouse in Singapore earlier this week – a 13,000 sq metre facility located in Benoi in the west of the island. The city state has been the location of DP World’s APAC headquarters since 2021, however until now it has not had its own facilities in the country.

    The planned fees on Chinese-built and Chinese-owned ships by the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced on 17 April will be phased in from 14 October following a grace period of 180 days. The fees will be tonnage based on Chinese-built and Chinese-owned ships calling in the US.

    Three incidents reported in the space of less than two hours on 7 May in eastbound lane of the Singapore Strait. Boardings of vessels by sea robbers of ships in one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes have continued unabated in recent days. Earlier in the week Seatrade Maritime News reported on four incidents between 29 April and 5 May, and an alert from ReCAAP highlighted a further three attacks in the early hours of 7 May.

    The vessel Transporter is a converted A-Class CTV and was designed and developed by Northern Offshore Services, which is part of NYK company Northern Offshore Group. The CTV is equipped with a methanol engine and the company only plans to use biomethanol derived from sustainable biomass as fuel to reduce emissions. The vessel has a capacity for 24 crew. David Kristensson, CEO of Northern Offshore Group said, “We now operate the world’s first single-fuel biomethanol crew transfer vessel.

    An Oman-brokered ceasefire sees the US halting its bombardment of Houthi held Yemen that started on 15 March and the Houthi saying it will stop attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait which started in November 2023, and in recent months have focused on US naval targets. “This ceasefire is a positive diplomatic development — but we are a long way from declaring a return to safe and stable shipping conditions in the region,” said a spokesperson for Dryad Global.
