A £19,000 council inquiry has led to an apology and the withdrawal of a social media post which described the chief executive as a "buffoon". Southampton City Council paid consultants to investigate the comment by councillor Rob Harwood and the behaviour of another unnamed member. Councillor Thomas Gravatt told a council meeting the six-month inquiry felt like a lot of work for "what amounts to name calling".

Protesters have won a legal battle over plans to build 473 homes on a dairy farm. Two High Court judges ruled provisionally that the Isle of Wight Council's decision to grant planning permission should be quashed. They said the council failed to publicise a financial deal with the developer over road improvements. The Save Westridge Farm campaign raised more than £57,000 in donations to fight the long-running court battle.

A violent prison with a "poor culture" has deteriorated since inspectors raised concerns three years ago, a report has said. Illegal drugs have become more widely available at HMP Guys Marsh near Shaftesbury, Dorset, HM Inspectorate of Prisons found. The men's jail has rising levels of violence, too much use of force by staff and the highest self-harm rate in its prison category, inspectors said. The Prison Service has been approached for comment.

Buses will replace trains between Southampton Central and Fareham up to and including Easter Sunday. On some days, trains to Bournemouth, Eastleigh, Lymington, Romsey, Salisbury and Weymouth will also be cancelled or rescheduled.

On the one hand, I kind of can't believe "The Penguin" -- a spinoff of "The Batman" in which Colin Farrell sounds like a Mike Francesa caller -- has a claim to be the best show on television. On the other, he, Cristin Millotti, and the rest of the cast are *that* good.
