Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue responded to the fire shortly after 2 p.m., with crews reporting one-third of the structure involved.

GREENVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A manatee rescued from a canal in Greenville’s Tar River marks the first documented live manatee rescue in North Carolina, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The 855-pound, 9-foot female manatee was first reported near Kitty Hawk in late October, exhibiting signs of distress. Rescuers said the animal was underweight and suffering from cold stress, a condition caused by prolonged exposure to water temperatures below 68°F, as well as a recent propeller injury.

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) — The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that the state’s death penalty, which now includes a firing squad as well as lethal injection and the electric chair, is legal. All five justices agreed with at least part of the ruling, opening the door to restart executions in a state that hasn’t put an inmate to death since 2011.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One man faces several charges after allegedly leading deputies on a chase through the Green Acres community of Columbus County. According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted two motorcyclists entering North Carolina without helmets and improperly displaying their license plates. That turned into a high speed chase, with speeds of 74mph in a 55mph zone.
