Watching Mayor Jerry Dyer and the Fresno City Council cordially approve a $2.36 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year reminded me of a "Game of Thrones" spinoff episode. Not an episode with beheadings, fire-breathing dragons or gratuitous nude scenes - obviously. Just these lines of dialogue from House of the Dragon uttered by Rhaenys Targaryen (aka The Queen Who Never Was). "These knights are as green as summer grass," Rhaenys tells husband Corlys Velaryon while they watch a jousting tournament.

Earlier this month, Fresno welcomed 448 members of the Salmonidae family to town. Which in this case is Latin for adult, spring-run Chinook salmon. The 448 adult salmon represent a milestone for the San Joaquin River Restoration Program, marking the highest number of captured returns since spring-run juveniles were reintroduced to the river system in 2014 following the 2008 legal settlement that modified the operations of Friant Dam to provide minimum flows for native fish.

Traffic passes potholes along Ashlan Avenue just west of Blackstone Avenue Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in Fresno. Recent winter storms affected the road conditions. [email protected] Fresno's crumbling streets have reached the point where the can cannot be kicked down the road any further. Not without it disappearing into a giant pothole. By taking the expensive but necessary step in advocating for a $100 million bond for paving and street repairs, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer deserves a thumb's up.
