AbstractBackground: Endothelial cell TRPV4 channels provide a control point that is pivotal in regulating blood vessel diameter by mediating the Ca2+-dependent release of endothelial-derived vasoactive factors. In hypertension, TRPV4-mediated control of vascular function is disrupted but the underlying mechanisms, and precise physiological consequences remain controversial.

UCLA has received a commitment of $4.1 million to the department of atmospheric and oceanic sciences — the largest gift in the department’s history — from adjunct professor Lawrence “Larry” Harding Jr. In honor of Harding’s late father, the gift will establish the Lawrence Harding Endowed Chair.

A new donation of 40 historical texts from Paul Chrzanowski further bolsters an already remarkable collection of early English texts at UCLA’s William Andrews Clark Memorial Library. The newly added items — including a 17th-century parchment with the seal of Queen Elizabeth I and a handwritten manuscript describing precious metals and gems — have been prepared for use by scholars as part of the library’s Paul Chrzanowski Collection.
